Krill Oil Is The Red Gold For Your Health

January 29, 2014

Fairly new to the supplement market, krill oil is making its mark as a unique addition for health and wellness. For those looking for krill supplements, they will notice fairly quickly that there are not a lot of manufacturers out there as compared to other fish oils.

The reason behind this is that krill, commonly harvested in the waters of the Antarctic, is a protected area for biodiversity. Conversely, not many manufacturers of krill oil are allowed in this area and only a few are authorized or allowed to fish in this region.

In the Antarctic, there are several billions tons of krill making it the biggest biomass on earth. Its population is huge. But still, we need to be respectful and responsible towards krill. A tiny little shrimp creature, manufacturers must make certain that whales, penguins and seals have plenty to consume for their daily diet.

When locating a krill supplement look for purity, potency and an eco- friendly product.

Krill oil seems to work well for whales, who travel great distances to get it near Antarctica. I take it in addition to other omega-3 oils and supplements. The more I read, the more I like it. I haven’t tried this brand, but plan to in the future.

The top nutrients in krill oil for human consumption are:

  • Astaxanthin: the greatest antioxidant around which wards off free radicals. Krill consume algae which have astaxanthin which create one of the finest, natural ways for humans to obtain this nutritious gem. Astaxanthin provides a host of benefits including protection from ultra violet rays to muscle aches.
  • Phospholipids: an important compound to have in your cell membranes and highly remarkable for brain sustainability.
  • Omegas: omega fatty acids have been touted as a necessity in overall health. Omegas found in krill help with inflammation and getting rid of infection. As many people know, inflammation causes pain which can lead to fatigue.

It’s important to note that fish oils contain triglycerides whereas krill offers phospholipids. There is a distinct difference in its bio-chemistry. Combining both will cover the gamut of health issues.
Adding krill to a diet on a daily basis has been reported to improve health issues such as:

  • Cognition like attention, memory retention, thinking ability, and mood balance.
  • Aging
  • Vision
  • Metabolism
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Fetal Development
  • PMS
  • Skin, hair and nail

When shopping for krill it is so important to be armed with knowledge. For one, brands can be over-processed so please avoid that. Quality companies will not want to compete with nature by adding in other compounds. Please walk away from krill supplements that contain gluten, artificial preservatives, colors, dairy, starch, wheat, yeast, sugar or soy protein.

While on the lookout, cheaper bottles may be sitting on the shelves. Take a closer look at the bottle. More than likely, the quality may be substandard and the milligrams will be 300 grams or less – so, by the time a user consumes the right amount which is up to 1,000 mg or more, there will not be much of a cost savings after all.

It goes back to that old saying, “You get what you pay for.” And when it comes to our bodies ingesting quality is the biggest gift we can give our health.
