Immune Power and an Update on Shoulder Healing

We added another category this week, focused on various elements of the immune system and foods and supplements that support and enhance its function. What good is it to look good, seem fit, and yet be sick all the time . The category will feature articles on the operation of the immune system, what can go wrong with it, what to eat to keep it healthy and what I hope will be solutions to the many aberrant errors it can make in the form of auto-immune diseases.

We will be shortly adding a category for diseases and nutritional and supplemental protocols for combating them. We are using the protocol information from Life Extension Foundation, where the research was done to create these protocols, and where the research was done to create products that can be effective in dealing with the conditions.

I have been annoyed to no end that the shoulder injury I sustained would not seem to heal in what I thought was a reasonable time. I mean, how am I supposed to be an example of a fit senior when I can’t even do a pushup? Well, the reason it hasn’t healed the way I commanded it to – there is a “loose body” stuck in the joint. The MRI I had last week showed this piece of hard stuff floating in the joint. It seems that I pulled a small part of a tendon on the subscapularis loose from its attachment to the bone, and took a chunk of the bone with it. Now I have to decide if I should have my orthopedic surgeon go after it or live with it.

The disturbing about this injury is the similarity to a knee injury that took me by surprise in November, 04 when we were in Italy; walking on a cobblestone road, admiring the beautiful architecture of a church, I clicked my heel on a stone and my knee exploded in pain. We finished the trip with no consequence – the knee felt fine until I got back to work, then it started ‘catching’. Within a few weeks I could hardly straighten it and in December, 04 I had a ‘loose body’ removed orthoscopically. Now the good part, again, is that my incredible fitness (that’s a bit tongue-in-cheek folks) got me back into the gym pushing good-sized weight with my legs in a very short time. The big question for me now is – why am I pulling chunks of bone out of said bones? I will research this further and keep you posted.
