Cosmetic surgery has become so commonplace that you may feel like an outsider if you haven’t had it done. Cosmetic surgery has become as ordinary, it seems, as having a day at the spa.
But the popularity of different cosmetic surgery procedures varies, in many instances because of their affordability. A woman in need of wrinkle reduction might want a face lift but choose to have a Botox or collagen injection instead, simply because of her budget constraints.
What, then, are the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures?
Eyelid lift
Eyelid lifts are rapidly gaining in popularity among women who want a fix for their drooping lids, but aren’t concerned about lines and wrinkles. An eyelid lift can be done as a one-day outpatient procedure, followed by a recovery period of about one week. Unlike Botox injections, there is not need to repeat the eye lift every few months.
That’s good, because the cost of an eyelid lift will run between two thousand and four thousand dollars. Some women report either excessive blurring or their eyes, or dry eye, after having an eyelid lift.
Botox Injections
Botox injections use a diluted form of the Botulinum neurotoxin, injected into the forehead, to reduce the wrinkles and lines associated with aging. While non-invasive Botox injections are much cheaper than eye lifts, and require only an hour to complete, they do cause numbness and discomfort in some women.
These side effects, however, are almost always temporary, and there is seldom a recovery period required following a Botox injection. A single Botox injection will cost between three and four hundred dollars. Their one drawback is that they need to be repeated every three to six months.
Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction is a surgical procedure during which a vacuum pump is used to remove unwanted fat deposits, normally from the thighs, buttocks, upper arms, or abdomen. Liposuction does require a recovery period, and because it is an invasive process liposuction carries a risk of infection.
Liposuction is not a permanent answer to unwanted fat, and unless those who undergo it adapt their lifestyles by eating healthy food and exercising regularly, they will put on more fat.
Some women have more than one liposuction procedure to remove fat from different areas, and the cost of a single procedure, depending on the amount of fat removed, can be as much as four thousand dollars.
Surgical Facelifts
Surgical facelifts are popular among women who want to correct the sagging skin which comes with age, but of all the popular cosmetic procedures, the facelift is the one whose success depends most on the skills of the surgeon performing it. A poorly qualified cosmetic surgeon doing a facelift can cause lasting damage.
Facelifts are much more complicated surgical procedures, and demand recovery periods of two or more weeks. There will be bruising and possibly pain during that time, and the the patient should stay out of direct sunlight. Face lifts, carry a greater risk of infection than most other cosmetic procedures.
Face lifts will cost between face and fifteen thousand dollars, depending on the extent of the work involved.
These are four of the most popular cosmetic surgery alternatives. While you may feel like you’re missing out on something if you haven’t had one, it could be that you simply don’t need one! If and when the day comes that you really do, be sure to learn as much as you can about your options.
