The latest advancement in anti aging skin care is not a synthetically created chemical compound. Nor, is this new antiaging skin cream really all that new. Down through the centuries, in cultures throughout the world, women, and some men, have gone to great efforts to preserve their youthful beauty.

Some of the beauty secrets passed down from mother to daughter have now been evaluated by chemists and other researchers. Going back to the past has been a major step forward in anti aging skin care. Let’s look at one example.

Wakame is a variety of edible sea kelp cultivated primarily in Japan and Korea, as a food source. Its historical uses are many, but the one that applied to antiaging skin cream was its use as a topical beauty treatment. In Oriental medicine, it was said to promote the skin’s health. Some refer to it as a “Japanese beauty preserver”.

Scientific evaluation showed that a serving of the kelp contained 15 times the calcium of an equivalent serving of milk. It contains other minerals as well, including sodium, iron and potassium, all of which help to maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance.

Recent research has also shown that it contains a unique antioxidant that protects against damage from UV rays and environmental pollution. This is important in anti aging skin care because the major signs of getting older (wrinkles and fine lines) are caused by this kind of damage.

But, the most exciting news is that when included in an antiaging skin cream, the levels of a protein known as hyaluronic acid increase, dramatically. We have known for some time that decreased levels of proteins, necessary to create new skin-cells, accompanied the aging process.

So, there are a number of anti aging skin care products on the market that contain hyaluronic acid and other of the skin’s proteins, but they are not effective. Either the body cannot use them or some other problem, causes them to be ineffective.

What many of us did not know is that an enzymatic process actually breaks down hyaluronic acid. Wakame inhibits that enzymatic process, so the levels of hyaluronic acid naturally increase. When testing a new antiaging skin cream that contains it, researchers found an 18% increase almost immediately and a 52% increase in as little as 5 days of use.

Why is this exciting? Because, in order for anti aging skin care products to really make a noticeable difference, we have to encourage our bodies to produce new cells, so that new collagen and elastin fibers may be produced.

In order to do this work, our skin’s cells need nourishment, namely proteins, but other vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are also important. The typical antiaging skin cream on the market was not created using this idea. Most cosmetic company representatives have no idea how the body works to repair and replace damaged cells and tissues.

Our bodies can take care of themselves, as long as we give them the right tools. Wakame is just one of the tools that can finally be found in anti aging skin care products around the world.
