Most people with herpes have mild, infrequent, or even NO symptoms. As regular protocol, when doctors test a person for STDs, unless asked, they do not check for herpes. Even if a doctor is asked to test for herpes, many doctors will state that unless you are having an active outbreak, there are no reliable tests for herpes. Unfortunately, this seems to apply to most doctors.

A decade ago not much was known about herpes and the only way people could be properly diagnosed was to have a culture done during an active outbreak. As a result, many people went undiagnosed or their outbreaks were misdiagnosed as a rash or yeast infection or any number of other things. Even when herpes was correctly diagnosed, many doctors would inform patients that unless they were having an active outbreak, there was no risk of passing along herpes to their partners. Unfortunately, a lot of doctors and their patients are STILL operating under these old, out-dated assumptions.

Thankfully, times have changed and there are many new blood tests available that diagnose herpes. These blood tests need to be taken 12-16 weeks AFTER your last sex partner in order to give the virus enough time to show itself in your bloodstream. http://www.accessrx.com/health-articles/genital-herpes-treatments/>Genital herpes is spread easily. The virus from an infected person can enter your body by passing through a break in your skin or through the skin of the mouth, penis or vagina, urinary tract opening, cervix, or anus. http://www.accessrx.com/valtrex_online.htm>Herpes is most easily spread when blisters or sores can be seen. But it can be spread at anytime, even when there aren't any symptoms.
