If you are going to use hydrogen peroxide in your mouth to whiten your teeth or any other internal use, the type of hydrogen peroxide that is sold at general stores, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, drug stores and convenient stores IS NOT made for internal use, no matter what the label says. And gargling with it can have the same harmful results as swallowing small amounts at a time, because of the absorption through the mouth. External use is fine though. This type of hydrogen peroxide has additives that can be harmful to you if you use it internally. Some say if you don't swallow it that it won't hurt you and again this is not the case if used over and over again. The inside of your mouth absorbs liquids and any type of dissolving compound very quickly. Example: think about the nitroglycerin pills that heart patients take when having a problem. It dissolves under their tongue and goes straight into their blood stream. There are also companies that make sublingual (under the tongue) vitamins that dissolve under the tongue for better delivery of these vitamins into the blood stream, avoiding stomach acids that destroy a portion of the vitamin.
You can obtain food grade hydrogen peroxide from some nutritional stores, but even though it can be utilized for internal use, it is very dangerous to work with and has to be diluted for the appropriate usage. It is inconvenient, can cause serious injury or even death if ingested at to potent of levels and it's expensive. I wouldn't recommend using hydrogen peroxide unless you are skilled and know what you are doing with it.
