Shekhawat inaugurates Ramdev's 'Patanjali Yogpeeth'
Haridwar, India. The Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today inaugurated Swami Ramdev's 'Patanjali Yogpeeth' here, saying the Yoga exponent had shown the path of healthy living to the poor.
Swami Ramdev has shown the path of healthy living to nearly 26 crore people who are living below the poverty line, the Vice-President said at a ceremony in Bahadarabad village.
"Allopathic medicines are costly, Yoga is much cheaper to them," Shekhawat said.
Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari said the institute had already been given the status of an university with Ramdev being its life- long Chancellor.
Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who attended the ceremony with his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, said the government would try to link Bahadarabad with the rail network and asked the people to "religiously follow" the teachings of the Yoga expert.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Bihar and Haryana Chief Ministers Nitish Kumar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Bajaj Auto chief Rahul Bajaj were among those who attended the inauguration of the institute, built at a cost of Rs 110 crore.
Swami Ramdev was in the news recently for allegations that he used "human and animal remains" in his medicines, but was later given a clean chit by the Uttaranchal Government.
