What if I told you skin care cream should support your skin's natural ability to regenerate itself. You'd probably say, "Duh!" But, if you look at the ingredients on average skin care moisturizer cream, you will see petrolatum, mineral oil, or paraffin.

What! Gasoline Byproducts!
Those ingredients are byproducts of the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. On principle alone, you don't want that in your skin care cream. Besides, respected dermatologists provide reasons you should avoid them.

Certain things support your skin's regeneration process. Other things interfere with it. Mineral oil, which is actually liquid petrolatum or petroleum jelly, interferes with the process.

In addition, those ingredients interfere with your skin's sebum production and will lead to excess dryness. So, even if a skin care moisturizer cream makes your skin feel less dry initially, in time, it will make you dryer and older looking.

Ahhh…..Sebum
Sebum is your skin's natural oil. It prevents bacterial growth, dryness, cracking, and other types of damage. It also contributes to firmness and elasticity. Because of this, the use of a good skin care cream during pregnancy can prevent stretch marks. It also prevents sagging, bags under your eyes, and outward signs of aging.

Plant Oils Similar To Sebum
The best skin care moisturizer cream is one that contains plant oils that are very similar to sebum. Ones to look for include olive, jojoba, and grape seed oil.

Skip The Extra Virgin Please
Of course, the right type of olive oil must be used in order for your skin care cream to penetrate deeply. Rubbing extra virgin olive oil all over your self won't do the trick. Look for a cream with "lipid fraction" olive oil. Of all the natural plant oils, olive shows the closest compatibility with your skin's natural oils, or sebum. Although, others are also close. Jojoba, for example, is very similar and has some additional benefits.

Jojoba Me
Research has shown that jojoba is an important ingredient for skin care moisturizer cream. It moisturizes AND forms a non-greasy layer that prevents moisture loss. Best of all, it can be used by dry, oily, or combination skin-types because it balances your sebum production. It has also been shown to reduce wrinkles and stretch marks, and skin care cream that contains it has been used to treat acne and psoriasis.

Jojo-grape Or Gra-jojo?
When jojoba is combined with grape seed oil, the elasticity and moisture in your skin is measurably higher and moisture loss is prevented. These two are also high in natural vitamin E, an antioxidant that prevents free radical damage.

I'd Like To Spend A Few More Years Searching. Yeah, Right!
You use the right skin care moisturizer cream and you can immediately begin to heal itching, flaking, and irritation. But, if you use the wrong ones, you could spend years switching and trying to find something effective. It's all about the ingredients.

In Current News: Rising Gas Prices Expose Petroleum Jelly
For years, cosmetic companies have told us what they want us to believe. Now, with rising gas prices and price per barrel of oil, perhaps they will finally start looking for safer, healthier alternatives to petroleum jelly. But, in all seriousness, you don't wait for that to happen. You can find effective skin care cream now that contains all the natural oils mentioned here, along with many healthy ingredients that nourish your skin. Do yourself a favor and make some time to look.
