In the ongoing battle against body fat, many dieters wonder if the best way to lose those kinds of pounds is to just starve off that fat.
After all, it does seem like a reasonable and workable idea. If we eat a lot less, we should lose weight. Do the math: if you burn one thousand calories in a day where you only consume eight hundred calories, you should be losing weight.
There can be no doubt that pursuing a starvation diet will cause your body to shed the pounds. For example, just think of all the photos we have all seen of people who are starving in some far away part of the world. They are clearly skinny, without doubt caused by not eating much.
That is most certainly one way to get slimmer but it will not get anyone who does it healthier. In fact, it will damage their health, most often permanently.
Starvation dieting is a very bad decision on so many different levels. As mentioned, it can and usually does negatively impact health. Do it long enough and it will lead to death. Short of that it can do permanent damage to internal organs and systems that shortens life spans and degrades the quality of life.
Keep in mind that the body has it's own built in defenses against starvation. The fact is that our fat stores are among the last things that the body exposes to the impact of starvation. Ironically, the first reaction our body has to being starved, besides slowing us down, is to begin to feed on itself.
The human body runs on protein and when there is not enough protein ingested, it begins to eat the protein available internally. That would be for instance muscle flesh. All the while the body continues to protect the fat store for use later if necessary.
Thus we lose protein weight first, followed slowly by fat stores last. Notably, most internal organs are also made up of protein and therefore subject to consumption as well. As you can imagine, this process is not a good thing. Starvation dieting is both wrong headed and quite dangerous. Losing our health in an effort to lose weight is simply brain dead behavior.
Everyone interested in losing weight knows there are a million diets available that claim to lead to a more perfect body. Most all of them, thank goodness, do not involve starvation. There are a few things to avoid in the diet world however and mention of those follows.
As emphasized so far, do not go on a starvation diet. Weight loss should be good for health as opposed to a threat to our long term well being.
If a diet requires taking pills or drinking something from the jungles of the Amazon, move on to a better place. Ingesting chemicals, natural or manufactured, to lose weight is another shortcut to diminished health.
Avoid gimmick diets that emphasize some sort of amazing process. That would include for instance a water diet or no white food regimen. This stuff is pure silliness.
There are also the pre packaged foods diets or the fat burning exercise equipment that are widely advertised. At least these will not be dangerous to your health but both can be very expensive and require a lot of self discipline. Not a bad thing but also not necessary.
The best way to go is to keep the weight loss process easy, simple and good for you. No starvation, no pills, no gimmicks and nothing that puts you in the poor house.
Get into a diet program that provides you with a wide variety of menus based upon foods that you like to eat. Doing so lessens the need to force yourself to stick to it.
Get a diet program that utilizes the natural fat burning processes in our bodies so that fat will be targeted and greatly eliminated.
Get a diet program that provides every resource necessary to strip away the excess fat weight so that you do not have to try and figure out what needs to get done. Look for an easy step by step weight loss system.
Of course, make it a program that has a low, one time cost so that there are no ongoing expenses and no need to go out and purchase other specialty items to make the diet work.
