Because of the modern lifestyle, sometimes maintaining an active exercise regimen becomes the last thing we plan for in the day and will most likely be relegated to the bottom of our daily lists in our lives. In the last five years "At Home Exercise Videos" has become a popular alternative or addition to exercise at your own space. In this case, a lot of people still attend yoga classes, yet using yoga DVDs/videos as an enhancement to a full practice at home has quickly become the next best thing to an actual class.

Here are essential things to consider before buying yoga DVDs/videos.

1. Know that there are a couple of forms of yoga out there.

There are several different forms of yoga that will each provide a methodology of yoga. These will range from a fast series of movements to a slow practice that focuses on removing stress from your body and promotes postures to relax the mind. Most yoga DVDs/videos will highlight a specific area of practice, but won't usually give a detailed description of it on the package. It is a good idea to understand what type of yoga you want to focus on prior to buying so that you do not have to waste your time and money on the wrong DVD.

2. Go on the internet or read yoga magazines.

There is so much valuable information that can be found online. Most yoga sites will provide you with the most recent information about yoga DVDs/videos at home. You might want to look for reviews of the latest yoga DVDs/videos. Talk to fellow yoga practitioners or a teacher at your yoga class as well as go to a site to post your questions such as on blogs and forums.

Sample sites: * http://www.YogaHub.org - Blog and Articles * http://www.YogiTimes.com - Magazine with News & Interviews * http://www.YogaVideoSource.com - Good Reviews of DVDs/videos

3. What is your personal goal for future?

Is there back pain, neck pain, or other ailments? Are you a beginner, an intermediate or a professional? The better understanding you have of your physical flexibility, the better it will be to decide what kind of instructional DVDs/videos you are best suited for. Do you want to know how to release your stress, lose and maintain the weight off, or something that tones and strengthens your total body? Perhaps it is to find a way to obtain more balance between your stress and your life or to simply enjoy a gentle way of stretching? Use these keywords when you browse through the many options. And most importantly check with your instructor before you take any action towards your new exercise regime.

4. Where do you practice?

To have a satisfying yoga practice, it requires that you commit to finding the time and space in your home where you will be comfortable and quiet. If this is true then you have to consider where and how you will take that time. You will be able to focus on your practice and not your household duties in a yoga class, yet it is not always a guarantee. It is best to find a quiet room or time at your home where you will be able to set aside all other concerns in order for you to take full advantage of your yoga training DVDs/videos.

Using yoga DVDs/videos at home, while traveling, or with friends will be one of the best alternatives to keep practicing. You can easily obtain such an opportunity to see a variety of yoga teachers from around the world. You can choose what time of the day best suits your schedule and if you need to take a break during a session you can do so at your leisure.

So take a breath, relax and experience one DVD at a time. You'll be aware of all of the options you will find, but relax. Just as with any class you will want to take as much information as you can from it before moving onto the next level. Remember there is no rush, your class begins when you want it to.
