For the first time, a full-length motion picture about prostate cancer has been released. “The Men’s Club”, a 2 hour 19 minute non-fiction film details all the different treatments, the side effects and the treatment for those side effects from a disease in which ¼ million men over the age of fifty will be diagnosed this year. Prostate cancer the second leading killer of men claims more than 30,000 lives with currently two million men having this form of cancer.

The writer, producer and director Rocky Galgano, himself a survivor, spent 2 years developing “The Men’s Club” which highlights the journey of doctors, men and their partners from diagnosis, to deciding on which treatment to choose, to life after treatment.

Not another ‘talking heads” documentary, the film which was independently produced with no outside funds from drug or treatment companies, includes both animated and live action footage of each of the five treatments from which men have to choose.

Segments also include Alternative & Integrative treatments, Support Groups, Wives and partners and the effect on them, HMO’s, the higher rate for African-Americans, discrimination in the work place and much more.

Interspersed throughout the film are images of over 100 notable men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer from George Forman former heavyweight boxing champion to actor Sean Connery. Galgano even licensed a clip from the ABC series NYPD Blue in which the character of Andy Sipowitz played by Dennis Franz portrays the problems of the disease in the episode entitled Seminal Thinking.

Heralded by doctors and survivors alike at the March premiere in San Diego, the highly prestigious non-profit Prostate Cancer Research & Education Foundation said of “The Men’s Club”, “This film is an important achievement and a milestone for the Prostate Cancer community around the U.S. It captures not just the facts and figures, but the spirit and soul of prostate cancer.”

The film is available at www.2ndstarfilms.com and retails for $19.95.
