When you receive the Seal you will understand how precious life is. You will take steps to lengthen your life, and a new study shows you can do that by getting moderate exercise so you stay fit.
The study was done in the United States following over 15,000 veterans at 2 Veterans' Administration hospitals, in Palo Alto, CA and in Washington DC. The men were both black and white and aged 47 to 71.
The men took a treadmill test at a VA clinic and while they ran the researchers measured how much energy they spent along with the amount of oxygen they used up.
Those figures were then turned into "metabolic equivalents" or METS, and the fitness of each man was scored on the METS scale, which registers very-high fitness at above 10 while low-fit is below 5 METS.
The very first vets took their treadmill test in 1983 and the men were tested all the way up until 1986. This study is the biggest of its kind ever done, boasting a large number of men studied and a long amount of years they were followed.
The researchers found that age was not the biggest factor in the increasing or decreasing chance of death for these men. And neither were indicators like blood pressure or body-mass index.
The biggest factor in decreasing the chance of death for these men was how fit they were. And it held true for both white and black men. For each point of their METS score raised, the men had an average of 13 percent less chance of death.
When their METS score was raised a point, black men had a 14 percent reduction in the chance of dying. And when their METS score was raised a point, white men had a 12 percent lower chance of dying.
The risk of death was also greatly decreased for those with multiple points higher in their METS score than for those with low fitness scoring. Moderately fit men were 20 percent less likely to die; high-fit 50 percent less likely to die; very high-fit men were 70 percent less likely to die.
When you are sealed God will show you how you can reduce your risk of an early death. You will eventually die but God wants to lengthen your life, and you can help Him do that.
How do you help? The good news is that it is relatively easy. You do not need frequent strenuous exercise to achieve a longer life. This study indicates that those people who stayed fit were less likely to die.
And to stay fit all you need to do is moderate exercise. You do not even have to run. You can stay fit by simply walking. It should be brisk walking for about 1/2 hour per day about 5 days per week.
But there is even more good news. This fitness is being hailed by experts as achievable by anyone. This means you too! As the study indicates, you will ward off early death more by staying fit than by just losing weight.
You will not need to get an expensive membership at a gym to do this. You do not even really need sports clothes or expensive shoes for the walking either. And you do not need to have weight sets and other equipment cluttering up your house.
When you are sealed God will choose you as His own. He will write His own Name upon you, and just as God lives, He will promise eternal Life to those who belong to Him. As well as eternal Life you may lengthen your life in this world too when you receive the Seal.
