Cradle cap affects newborns. The condition makes for an ugly sight. However, if one looks past the face value, the condition is actually quite harmless. Firstly, it is not contagious. Secondly, it is quite common and there are ready solutions to it, even though the causes of the condition are still vague. Mild cradle cap can be cured by deploying a medically certified shampoo on the scalp and combing it softly with a brush that has soft bristles. For more extreme conditions, one can use olive oil to massage the affected scalp, leave it on for some time, and wash the scalp after applying a good quality anti-dandruff shampoo. Olive oil makes the flakes soft and the shampoo effectively washes them away.

The mother has to be alert too in these cases. If she takes care of her diet then it will go a long way in curbing or successfully combating the condition. She should take food that is rich in biotin, like liver, eggs etc. However, there is a flipside to this diet thing. There are some foods that may cause cradle cap, and which are allergic to infants. Eggs and wheat are two examples.

The market these days are replete with baby care products. There is a tremendous amount of choice as regards shampoo and cream for cradle cap condition. Also, it is advisable that if cradle cap cannot be countered at home, one takes the services of a medical professional. He may do a better job of giving the right kind of advice, as regards the appropriate cream and the shampoo to use.

According to research, babies with cradle cap have a hereditary history of allergy-induced conditions like asthma and eczema. Also, someone who has had cradle cap may risks getting affected with scalp conditions like dandruff as they grow older.
