Stress! It is something most people have come to accept as a normal condition We are so accustomed to our high paced, caffeine addicted lifestyle that we have forgotten what it would feel like to have peace of body and mind.

We can begin taking steps to reduce the stress in our lives and also to support our body with foundational nutrition so it can function optimally in modern life.

Begin to unwind your life with the following 5 nutritional steps.

1. Give up caffeine. Yes, that means give up coffee and soda! Caffeine is a stimulant but it has many negative effects on the body. It stimulates an artificial, chronic state of stress.. A chronic state of stress elevates cortisol. Sustained elevated cortisol destroys healthy muscle and bone; slows down healing and normal cell replacement; co-opts bio-chemicals needed to make other vital hormones; impairs digestion, metabolism and mental function; interferes with healthy endocrine function; and weakens your immune system.

2. Eat whole grains. Whole grains have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease by decreasing cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and blood coagulation. Whole grains are a good source of B vitamins, Vitamin E, magnesium, iron and fiber.

3. Eat More Vegetables. Increase your intake of vegetables and fruit. Eating 5 to 10 servings every day may help reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke. Along with their great taste and versatility, vegetables and fruit offer a host of heart-healthy nutrients.

4. Drink plenty of water. Water is necessary for our body to operate efficiently. Water is vital to the body in temperature regulation, nerve impulse conduction, circulation, metabolism, immune system, eliminative processes, sensory awareness and perceptive thinking. 5. Supplement with whole food nutrition that supports optimal body function.

By taking steps to change our lifestyles and habits our bodies reap the benefits. We are living longer so it makes sense to do everything we can to ensure an active and vital life as we age.
