Lifetime fitness is a worthwhile aim. To achieve lifetime fitness the whole person should be taken into account. Fitness is as much a mindset as it is physical. For the person who is unfit, it may seem a bit daunting to even hear the expression ‘lifetime fitness’. Fitness of any kind is most certainly attainable if pursued a little at a time.

For the beginner pursuing lifetime fitness, a brisk walk three times a week is a good enough start. You should feel the benefits of exercise almost immediately. Your heart will definitely increase in strength. Not to mention the good effects of deep breathing in the fresh air. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to exercise out of doors. However, do not allow that to prevent you from carrying out a lifetime fitness exercise. A brisk thirty minute walk on an indoors treadmill will bring about the same effect.

After a couple of weeks you should become aware that you are able to walk a bit further. At this moment, lifetime fitness would seem more within your reach. Perhaps you could increase your walks per week. Exercise not only improves deep breathing but it also promotes a good night’s sleep. Quality sleep is an important part of dealing with lifetime fitness.

Brisk walking is an aerobic exercise that strengthens the heart and lungs. Regular aerobic exercise maintains vascular fitness. Lifetime fitness would be impossible without performing some kind of aerobics. Developing muscle would be of benefit in delaying the ageing process. It is not to every person’s liking but weight training does build strength. Strong, toned muscles would help to keep body shape as we get older. Some muscle strength is required in a lifetime fitness program.

A successful lifetime fitness exercise program would include a healthy eating plan. Simple daily meals of a sufficient amount of fresh fruit and vegetables, virgin oils, nuts, seeds and protein should be eaten. Adequate water should be drunk throughout the day. Water enables certain organs to cleanse the body of toxins. An improved eating plan would also make us feel more energetic and encourage us to embrace lifetime fitness as a priority. When exercise is a part of our lifestyle it is imperative that enough whole foods are consumed.

As age advances the only way to keep flexible is to exercise. Yoga is a form of exercise that relies on stretching and improved breathing. This ancient type of exercise has provided lifetime fitness for participants over thousands of years. Yoga builds strength, balance, grace, endurance, flexibility, posture and strength. This discipline could also help sufferers of asthma, back pain and migraine. If incorporated into a lifetime fitness regime, yoga relieves stress.

This simple philosophy of correct nutrition, exercise and deep breathing should be incorporated into daily life. The benefits of lifetime fitness are far reaching. Alert minds and less stress result. Physical strength and endurance ensures an independent lifestyle. Vitality and get-up-and-go are reasons enough for pursuing a lifetime fitness program. Growing older with grace and dignity is in our control.
