Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a popular method used in the field of energy psychology, a branch of Alternative medicine, that has often been described as “acupuncture for the emotions,” except that needles are not used. Or, to say it another way, EFT therapy is acupressure for the emotions. Within the rapidly expanding field of energy medicine Emotional Freedom Technique is the fastest growing therapy devoted to stress and related untoward emotions. In this area, it is used most for natural pain relief, PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder), anxiety, phobias, mild depression, negative emotions in general, as well as weight loss.

The use of EFT for weight loss seems quite natural, once the emotional aspects of excess weight is considered; and this is so for several reasons. First, there are the potential emotional aspects that are the reasons why a person develops a weight problem; the reason why a person might become obese. Next, the emotional reasons why a person with a weight problem will not or cannot lose the weight they wish to manage. Third, the common experience many overweight people encounter when they find themselves engaged in compulsive eating related to a particular emotional state, also called emotional eating, and unable or not caring to stop the destructive behavior. Lastly, the emotional distress of isolation, feelings of failure, humiliation many overweight people experience.

For all these reasons EFT is an excellent tool to use to manage the diverse layers of emotional distress associated with being overweight.

Here are some of the common experiences of someone who has a strong emotional element associated to their personal weight situation: 1. Eat when not hungry 2. Always feel hungry 3. Feel out of control with food 4. Can't stop eating once eating has started 5. Eat to end some personal emotional pain or a sense of emptiness 6. Can't get or stay motivated to lose weight 7. Afraid you'll re-gain all the weight you lost

In EFT, it is very common to encounter that all of the above have an emotional trigger that is contained within a life event that continues to cause distress. Using EFT it is possible to eliminate those emotional triggers that cause emotional eating habits and mind sets that prevent personal control. Once that triggers, or triggers, are identified and neutralized, it is easy to change lifelong mindsets about food and behavior, lose all the weight you want, and never gain it back.

EFT can be thought of as a secret weapon to lose all the weight you want and keep it off, once you are able to eliminate the many emotional reasons that perpetuate the weight problem. Once this is accomplished, it is common for a person to experience many positive mindset changes: 1. Stop of compulsive eating, binging, and purging 2. Stop food cravings 3. Gain control of eating habits 4. Learn how to eat favorite foods, yet not gain weight 5. Improve self image 6. Be free from eating and weight problems forever

Using the methods taught and practiced in Emotional Freedom Technique all of these changes can and do occur. Using EFT it is possible to make the necessary emotional changes to establish positive and beneficial attitudes and behaviors that favor normal and healthy body weight.
