( Malnutrition)
Malnutrition is a general term for a medical condition caused by an improper or inadequate diet.[1] According to the World Health Organization, hunger and malnutrition is the gravest single threat to the world's public health and malnutrition is by far the biggest contributor to child mortality, present in half of all cases.[2] An individual will experience malnutrition if the appropriate amount of, or quality of nutrients comprising a healthy diet are not consumed.[3] An extended period of malnutrition can result in starvation, disease, and infection. The term can also encompass overnutrition,[4] resulting from overeating or excessive intake of specific nutrients.
